Working among young women for seventeen years, I have observed and participated in numerous fads. When I first started teaching you needed a Dunne and Burke purse, painted t-shirts, and lots of seasonal sweaters. Today, it is lots of bling, a boyfriend Fossil watch and an insulated cup for your diet coke. I enjoy being part of the happening scene, even if it is only in my mind.
You are still part of the scene and not just in your mind. I know those young teachers admire you and think you are pretty hip for an "older lady."

Judy, when it's only in your mind you will be dead. You'll never lose touch with those kids or those teachers. The need you, and want you, and I've noticed we all need them too. Those guys who check out before they check out are most definitely not you.

I haven't seen the cups. Maybe since I left the classroom I have started following a different crew.
